The first cross race of the season was this past Sunday at the Morrison Elementary School. In an attempt not to peak to early and burn out like last year and following my training plan I started the race from the very back (DFL) of a 50+ group and chilled for the first lap. It was actually very nice compared the the chaos of being up front and fighting for position. After the first lap, I picked up the pace and started picking off a number of folks who had completely blown on the first lap. I rode with Dan and kept this same pace for the next two to three laps and continued to pick off people. I decided to turn it up a notch again and felt pretty good, but then with about two or three laps to go my lower back started to really hurt. This really limited by ability to push it, but I was still able to pass 3-4 folks in the final lap and finished the race 18th out of 52.
