Foothills CX Race Report

Big boy racing round two was held in south Denver yesterday at the Foothills CX and I lined up with the 35+ Open gang for some fun.

I lined up in the third row and had a decent start. Going into the single track I was around 20th. The boys at the front were cracking the whip and the pace was very fast. I was able to ride the technical sections well and close down gaps. Coming into the start/finish area after lap 1 a VC guy came past me and I jumped on his wheel. He was flying up the hill and in retrospect I burnt a big match staying on his wheel, but he was going places and I thought I'd try and go along for the ride. We passed 3 or 4 people prior to going back into the single track and I rode his wheel for most of the 2nd lap. Towards the end of the third lap we were joined by a Hart and MOB guy and I couldn't match their pace going up the hill to the start finish area and was dropped.
For the next couple of laps I would be riding alone or working with one other. I would drop the other rider or get dropped.

With a 2 or 3 laps to go I got caught by Nat Ross and a few others, and again I couldn't match their pace.

During the last lap I played cat and mouse with another guy. We were messing around so much that we almost got caught by couple of guys. I ended sprinting the guy from the bottom of the hill to the start/finish area, but pulled up just short to avoiding hitting a women and a kid who where standing in the middle of the start/finish line and finished 27th.
