The last time I was at Bohn Park in Lyons was with the family for the Lyon's Good Old Days carnival. Well it looks like after some lobbying by the Oskar Blues folks, the 2007 Colorado Cyclocross championships will be held at Bohn Park.
Mr. Podium Boy and I headed over to the park at lunch today to do some recon and get a feel for what the course layout may be like. Let's just say the terrain is basically flat. Three-quarters of the park is an open "grass" field that is a false flat from north to south. The other one-quarter of the park is grass, trees, and gravel paths. This area, if incorporated into the course will probably be the most technical. No hills of any kind for run ups.
It will take some creativity, but I'm sure they come up with a challenging course.

When I heard that Brian didn't have a solid location for the finals Lyons certainly spoke up, a great group of us have really been wanting to put on or bring an event to our cycling friendly town. My initial vision was to use the Highschool & Bohn park. The highschool has a lung buster of a run up that is basically as long as you want it to be. In addition it has some double track & singletrack to include with the open grass, pea gravel & road sections. I'm not sure what Brian's course plans include but the area certainly could put on a killer race. Looks like the weather is cooperating with enough "good" weather to ensure the course will be tough no matter what the layout is. see you in Lyons.
Chad - Thanks to you and all the folks in Lyons for stepping up and hosting states this year. It's been great having you (and your beer!) at the Blue Sky Velo tent this cross season. We'll be promoting a cross race next year and would love to have Oskar Blues involved. Can't wait to see what the Boulder Racing folks draw up for a course. I'm sure it will be a good one. See you Sunday.
